Acron Aviation Academy

How veterans can use the GI Bill for pilot training

The GI Bill can be applied to pilot training with a VA-certified flight school such as Acron Aviation Academy. If you qualify, much of what you need for transitioning into a professional pilot could be covered through your VA benefits.

Can GI Bill benefits be used at a pilot school?

Yes - if you qualify for GI Bill benefits, you may use your benefits for the cost of pilot training, provided the proper VA-approved Part 141 flight school is attended.

Many GI Bill benefits facilitate funding for vocational flight training, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill and Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) programs. Coverage depends upon pilot qualifications and the selected flight program.

GI Bill programs and flight training coverage

Mongomery GI Bill active-duty (Chapter 30) & selected reserve (Chapter 1606)

The VA will cover 60% of the approved fees for vocational flight. Entitlement is paid directly to the military/veteran cadet, not the academy. Please see below for each entitlement’s current rates.

Military students post 9/11 (Chapter 33)

The VA will send payment to the Academy for approved fees up to the maximum amount. The current rate (Effective August 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026) for military students using Chapter 33 at 100% of the full entitlement is $17,097.67 per academic year. For more information, click here.

Acron Aviation Academy currently does not accept Chapter 31: Veterans Readiness and Education (VR&E) or Chapter 35: Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA).

Veterans eligible for Chapter 31 (VR&E) should consult with their assigned VR&E advisor to determine if vocational flight programs for becoming a commercial pilot are approved based on their educational and career goals.

Acron Aviation programs approved for GI Bill funding

Acron Aviation Academy offers multiple training certifications and ratings that are approved for VA Educational Benefits. The following certifications and ratings meet the VA’s strict requirements for Vocational Flight.

  • Instrument Rating
  • Commercial Single-Engine Land
  • Commercial Multi-Engine Land
  • Flight Instructor Airplane Certification

Although VA Educational Benefits will not cover all tuition and fees for flight training, combined with privatized student loans and scholarships, they can assist and ease the financial burden associated with training.

Speak with your Acron Aviation military and veteran services team

Because every military student’s situation is different, our Military and Veteran Services team in Florida is available to assist cadets and their families in understanding and counseling on educational benefits. The team also has direct contact with the VA Educational Benefits office when questions arise regarding payment and eligibility issues.

All cadets using VA educational benefits have a dedicated academic advisor who monitors and tracks their academic training, submits enrollment to the VA, and assists with providing additional academy resources.

When you speak to our financial experts, you’ll get clarity on exactly what pilot training funding you qualify for, how much of your education can be covered, and how to get started quickly. Even if you need help beyond your GI Bill benefits, we can assist you with additional flight school financing options such as Sallie Mae or Stratus Financial.

Thanks to our partnerships and guidance, veterans often move from enrollment to the cockpit with minimal barriers. To find out what you qualify for, request info today and start planning your next career move.
