One of the key benefits to a Sallie Mae flight school loan is the 12 month grace period you get* after graduation, before having to pay back the balance of the loan. Here's how the Acron Aviation Academy training program benefits you:

  • Complete training at Acron Aviation using a Sallie Mae flight school loan
  • Graduate from Acron Aviation Academy
  • Interview with Acron Aviation Academy for a CFI position
  • Earn money while working as a CFI with Acron Aviation Academy
  • Make interest only payments during flight school and the grace period

*12 month grace period available to successful Sallie Mae applicants who began their application after July 2nd 2025. Those in the application process prior to this date have up to a six month grace period.

Who can apply for a Sallie Mae loan?

Sallie Mae’s rates reward creditworthy borrowers and offer flexible repayment plans to students.

Thousands of students and cosigners successfully apply for Sallie Mae loans each year. The minimum loan amount is $1,000 and the maximum could be up to 100% of the cost of pilot training.

Those eligible include:

  • U.S. citizens and permanent resident aliens
  • Resident alien with required U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) documentation
  • Non-U.S. citizen students (including DACA students) who reside in and attend school in the U.S., are eligible with a creditworthy cosigner (who must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident) and are required to provide an unexpired government-issued photo ID to verify identity
  • Students who meet current credit and other eligibility criteria
  • Students attending school full-time, part-time, or taking prerequisite classes
  • Students attending summer classes or continuing education classes
  • Students who still need funds after maximizing scholarships and other student loans
