Funding pilot training

Developing a plan to fund your training is one of the first steps in the enrollment process. Our Admissions and Financial Aid teams will help guide you through exploring financing options.

Most students cover the primary portion of their training through self-pay, private educational loans, or a combination of both. For those who prefer to fund their pilot training with private student loans, we have partnered with lenders who can provide up to 100% of the cost of pilot training for eligible, creditworthy borrowers.

To help you cover your pilot license costs, several flight school loans are available for you to apply for.

FAQs for becoming a pilot

The timeline depends on the license you are pursuing. A Private Pilot License (PPL) typically takes 3 to 6 months with full-time training. A Commercial Pilot License (CPL) can require 12 to 18 months to obtain when enrolled in an accelerated program, such as Acron Aviation's. To become an airline pilot, you will also need to accumulate experience and flight hours, which typically takes about 2 to 3 years for most students.
You can start flying as early as age 16 with a student pilot certificate. Most students earn their Private Pilot License by the age of 17 and their Commercial Pilot License by the age of 18. Many future airline pilots begin training right after high school, while others start later due to a career change. Most professional pilots begin their commercial flying careers in their early 20s.
Yes, a college degree is not required by the FAA to become a commercial pilot. Many airlines hire based on flight hours, training quality, and professional performance. However, having a degree can enhance your competitiveness when applying to legacy airlines. Acron Aviation also offers articulation agreements, allowing your training to count toward a degree.
Yes, the aviation industry is currently facing a pilot shortage, particularly in the U.S. According to Boeing’s 2024 Pilot Outlook, the world will require over 600,000 new pilots by 2040. This demand arises from retirements and an increase in airline travel, resulting in strong job security and career opportunities for new pilots.
Many pilots say yes - the career offers high salaries, travel perks, flexible schedules, and the thrill of flying. Although flight training requires a substantial investment, most pilots experience a strong return, with first-year regional airline salaries starting around $60,000 to $90,000 and senior captains at major airlines earning well over $300,000.
No, perfect vision isn’t required. You must have correctable vision to 20/20, which means you can wear glasses or contact lenses to achieve this standard. You'll also need to pass an FAA medical exam. However, most people with common vision issues, such as nearsightedness or astigmatism, can typically qualify for this program.
